Make Good the Little Things

“This is the second death, the lake of fire; and if any one’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”

Excerpt, First Reading, Friday 29th Nov. 2024 – REVELATIONS 20:1-4, 11-21:2.

So, we have ever have cause to walk under the scorching sun for just an hour?

I guess, to most of us, especially the ‘millennias’ that would be a harrowing experience.

Although, to some of us, while not alluding to getting familiar with suffering, it has become a usual routine.

Nevertheless, whether a regular routine or not, having to walk under the hot sun is never an experience that one can be used to or can be enjoyed.

As we already know, the heat of the sun scorches us skin deep, however, we never get to be burnt off as we see fire consume things that are thrown into it to be burnt.

Similarly it is said to be about the Lake of Fire. Just like the sun, it scorches without consuming. However, the heat is said to be over a zillion times hotter and more uncomfortable than the sun and the usual fire we are familiar with.

So, to those of us that a little sun gets us so uncomfortable, we must endeavour to ensure that our name gets into The Book of Life. That my dear friend is the only way to avoid the uncomfortable lake of fire.

About that Book of Life, my dear friend, ‘man know man’ no dey inside o! Neither would having the proverbial ‘long legs’ be of any respite. Even your papa and your mama no fit help. Bribery and corruption no reach dat side o!

My dear friend, about getting to have our name written in that book, it is all man for himself.

Dear friend, this is not some kind of fairy tale or talking tough,
Christ Jesus himself said it, “Truly, I say to you, . . . . . . . . . . . .Heaven
and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” – LUKE 21:29-33.

Nonetheless, it is equally not something like rocket science or does it require any theatrics or the kind of Mother Theresa type of sacrifice, neither does it require one to be as philanthropic as Bill Gate and Rockefeller put together to have one’s name enter the Book of Life.

By the way, if any one is capable of any or all of the☝️above, by all means, do them.

Nevertheless, it is doing rightly the simple little everyday things of everyday life that matters and counts for us.

As have always been reiterated, God is more persuaded by our deliberate positive efforts to become Good morning, Stella. You still haven’t sent me the fabrics.

Folks, have a fantastic day and a pleasant weekend.

Avoiding the Wrath

“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! . . . . . . . . . . . . Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “So shall Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, and shall be found no more; . . . . . . . . . . . .”

Excerpt, First Reading, Thursday 28th Nov. 2024 – REVELATION 18: 1-2.21-23; 19:1-3.9a).

So, my dear friend, today’s teaching, as quoted☝️above is a declaration that this world will pass away some day.

Therefore, if anyone of us drops now or we all exist until that unknown day, what is certain is that, it must come.

And when that day comes, this is what the Holy Book says, “So the angel swung his sickle on the earth and gathered the vintage of the earth, and threw it into the great wine press of the wrath of God.” – REVELATIONS 14:14-19.

It is neither my word or some fallacy. We can recall that Christ Himself said it, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. – MATTHEW 24:35-36.

Dear friend, we have already been ransomed by the Blood of the Lamb. All we ought to do right now is only to live as a ransomed people. Then, we wouldn’t be part of the lot that will be reaped and dumped into the place of the wrath.

Remember, my dear friend, God is more persuaded by our deliberate positive efforts to become better.

Have a fantastic day folks.

Unyielding to the Ways of the World

“They will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake. . . . . . . . . . . . You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and kinsmen and friends, and some of you they will put to death; . . . . . . . . . . . . But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your lives.”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Wednesday 27th Nov. 2024 – LUKE 21:12-19.

So, the above☝️assertion from today’s teaching is a caution by Christ to his disciples about what would happen to them.

Now, is there anyone who would say that Christ’s statement above is not already happening?

Is it not already occurring in parts of the world where obscenity and outright sinfulness are tolerated just because ‘the society’ wouldn’t want to ‘hurt’ some people’s ‘sensibility’?

On 19th July 2015 in Vermont, USA, what happened to then 56 years old Pastor Paul Horner?

The was tried and sentenced to jail. – A pastor at the Christian Proctor Church in Vermont, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment for refusing to wed a gay couple.

The Honourable Myron Danus in his verdict said, “Religious freedom goes both ways, Mr. Horner,” Danus told a packed courtroom.

He was jailed for his refusal to perpetrate obscenity.

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus. He, whose coming into this world to take the form of man, his death, resurrection and ascension into heaven has liberated mankind from eternal sin and damnation. Hence, making us co-heirs of heaven.

Therefore, when we celebrate Christmas, we say to folks, very joyously and emphatically, ‘Merry Christmas!”

However, since there are purportedly some people who go to the shop buy a Christmas tree, buy other gift items as well and exchange with kith and kin, but subsequently do not have any further observation of the celebration, for the sanity of their sensibilities, we should no longer say, Merry Christmas!

Also, someone who wears a clothing item with a bold inscriptions, “I Love Jesus Christ” will be prohibited free movement in public spaces.

If all the aforementioned are most prevalent in the United States, what about you and I who are either intimidated or too ashamed to make the sign of the cross when we board public transport or when we have to say the “Grace Before Meal” while in public?

We too must have yielded to the ways of the world and allowed ourselves to be boxed into that tight corner that we now find ourselves.

My dear friend, the devil is a liar. Therefore, our actions both in private and publicly must and should consign the him to that doom of the abyss.

May God grant us the grace to permit His will to be realised in our life.

Have a fantastic day folks.

Read and Equipped

“Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign when this is about to take place?” And he said, “Take heed that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and, ‘the time is at hand!’ Do not go after them. And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified; for this must first take place, but the end will not be at once.”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Tuesday 26th Nov. 2024 – LUKE 21:5-11.

So, whenever there is a strive both natural and man-made, some cunning people would take advantage of that to their selfish gains.

These type of people would suddenly become apostles and preachers of end time.

The fear engendered by the uncertainty of such times gets some people (mostly those who are ignorant and of little faith) to become fearful and desperate.

Such times as it were only recently with the COVID-19.

Their fright and desperation get them to flock in droves to become disciples of one, to whom they would later come to discover to their chagrin to be such cheat. That is, if they survive long enough to even regret their decisions.

Dear friend, we must make it a cardinal duty to read the word of God daily, reflect upon it, imbibe it so as to be equipped and ready for such a time whenever it comes. That we may not be led astray by the deceit of such cheats.

Have a fantastic day folks.

Widow’s Might

“Jesus looked up and saw . . . . . . . . . . . . a poor widow put in two copper coins. And he said, ‘Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; for they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all the living that she had.”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Monday 25th Nov. 2024 – LUKE 21:1-4.

So, it is from this part of the Holy Bible that the cliché ‘widow’s might’ is derived from.

Now, it must be clear that Christ is not condemning any rich person for the wad of money they drop in the offertory basket.

If for anything, the Church actually needs such generosity of its members to actively and effectively perform its task of proper evangelization.

The intention of Christ’s remarks in today’s teaching is about trust.

That old lady trusting in God that He shall provide for her, didn’t give a second thought before emptying her purse into the collection basket.

Mother Theresa of blessed memory says, “Love is not love until it hurts.”

Dear friend, it is such radical trust that quickly attracts the attention of our Heavenly Father.

Like a fisherman who did not put any fishes in the river, however, he takes his nets everyday and casts them in the water with the hope of gathering in fishes.

Any day that he doesn’t catch a single fish, while still trusting in God, He will return again the next day and hurl his nets in the water.

The guys we call ‘man waka’, they depart from their various houses daily with the hope that someone will hire them just so that they can earn a living to feed their family for that day.

For the mere fact that none hires them on Monday is not enough reason for them not to return to the same place on Tuesday.

These are examples of blind trust in God that challenges Him to be favourably disposed towards us.

Remember, in giving, “Love is not love until it hurts.”

Have a fantastic day and a fulfilled week folks.

Keeping it Holy

“Jesus entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer’; but you have made it a den of robbers.” And he was teaching daily in the temple. The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him; . . . . . . . . . .”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Friday 22nd Nov. 2024 – LUKE 13:45-48.

So, the folks that said Christ was high-handed and over-zealous for treating the people in today’s teaching the way he did, what would they have to say about what goes on in our places of worship today, even at the pulpit?

This is not excluding any denomination. All of them are culpable. The Pentecostal, Protestants and even the Catholics, some or most of the players in the Churches of today’s Christendom have outdone the things that got those traders of Jesus’ time to get flogged.

Possibly, if Christ were to come for some of those church leaders today, he would make his whips out of iron and steel.

So, my dear friend, would one say that because of the seemingly flawed practices in our churches one would no longer go to church?

Far be that from us. We must recall what Jesus Christ says of us, “We are in this world, but we are not of this world.” – JOHN 16:17.

It mustn’t be lost on us that we are first the temple of the Holy Spirit. Then, we, together with our household are the first church.

Therefore, we may be caught in the midst of such anomaly in our various local churches, however, we are not part of it and we honestly ensure never to be a part of it.

We have a shinning example in Saint Cecilia. Though, she was in the midst of a corrupt world where the sin of fornication was regarded as social convention in the society, yet she chose to exempt herself from such sinfulness and keep her virginity even if it would cost her life.

Kudos to those who are still virgins in Secondary School, those that have finished secondary school, those in the university as well the ones that have graduated from the university and are still virgins. Indeed, God is proud of you.

Folks, have a fantastic day and a pleasant weekend.

God is Noticing Them.

“And when they saw it they all murmured, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded any one of anything, I restore it fourfold.” And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Tuesday 19th Nov. 2024 – LUKE 19:1-10.

So, today’s teaching is a typical exemplification of how God is more persuaded by our deliberate positive efforts to become better.

If Christ would perceive, then, acknowledge the efforts of Zacchaeus, though, sinful as he was, and yet offered to be a guest at his house, then, we, too, our own deliberate efforts are certainly not unnoticed.

Dear friend, though, we live and exist in a sinful world, where vulgarity as well as slothful, immoral and disingenuous acts have become conventional, nevertheless, when we strive to live above board, God takes notice of us.

God spoke proudly of Job because he lived uprightly in a dysfunctional world. God was also merciful to Lot and his family because they dared to live differently amidst a corrupt people.

And in today’ teaching, though, Zacchaeus while still steeped in his cheating ways, he made a deliberate positive effort to by climbing a tree to have a fleeting glance of that much talked about itinerant Rabbi.

That effort, my dear friend, was noticed by God and l it changed his life forever.

Dear friend, we, too, God is seeing us as in our daily lives we take steps to positively change our ways. We should never give up, we must persist.

Remember, God is more persuaded by our deliberate positive efforts to become better.

Have a fantastic day folks.

Believing and Trusting in God

“But he cried out all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me!” . . . . . . . . . . . .“What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me receive my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight . . . . . . . .’

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Monday 18th November 2024 – LUKE 18:35-43.

So, blind trust in God and total submission to His will is the ultimate.

When one gets a piece of land. Tills that land, cultivates and plants on it. Ensuring that it is properly weeded and the appropriate fertilizer is applied to the soil.

One mustn’t yet go trusting in all these efforts they put in alone, hoping in them that they may have a good yield.

Truly, by all human standards and scientifically, one is supposed to have good yields from such efforts.

Nevertheless, when we put our trust only in our efforts, we may be disappointed. Our farm may have full, fresh and green leaves, but may have little or no yields.

Meanwhile, one who puts in less than half of our efforts may experience a bumper harvest. The difference could be that, the other person did their bit and trusted the remainder into the glorious hand of God. It is God that gives and brings about increase.

The blind man in today’s teaching knew about trusting God completely blindly and he utilised it to his good.

Do we by chance think that Christ didn’t know what the man wants? Of course, he knew, however, he made the blind man to come to him.

Then, Christ asked him what he wants and without any equivocations, he was brief, clear and straightforward as possible in stating his need.

Christ would have just even waved his hand and the man could have received his sight. Nevertheless, he made him come to him and had an interaction with him.

Christ necessitated the interaction with the blind man just to further his teaching and teach us something vital.

First, we must persist as the blind man did. Then we should be clear, brief and straightforward with our request as did the blind man. And lastly, and most important, we must believe and have faith.

Recall that Christ said that it was the blind man’s faith that made him well.

Dear friend, notwithstanding our hard work, the most important thing afterwards, is to trust everything to God , believing and having faith in Him.

May God avail us the grace to permit His will to be realised in our life.

Have a fantastic day and a fulfilled week folks.

Heed the Warning.

Likewise as it was in the days of Lot— they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built, but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from heaven and destroyed them all— so will it be on the day when the Son of man is revealed. On that day, let him who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away; . . . . . . . . . . . . Remember Lot’s wife. Whoever seeks to gain his life will lose.”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Friday 15th Nov. 2024 – LUKE 17:26-37.

So, this is a warning that there is going to be an end. Should we be disturbed, for the fact that this end is said to come suddenly?

Well since we are here already, whether we like it or not, do we have a choice?

However, we have a hand in determining and shaping the choice of our destination when that end eventually comes.

If whenever we step out of our house, we have either of our phone or credit/debit card on us or both as well as some cash, then, it is also very possible to prepare for the sudden end.

It is gratifying seeing some people who are advanced in age living a prepared life. However, since old age is a gift that is not assured or promised to all, we should be prudent with our ways

Dear friend, we must be wise and make the best use of our choices now.

Remember, God is more persuaded by our deliberate positive efforts to become better.

Folks, have a fantastic day and a pleasant weekend.

Always Be Prepared

“The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, ‘Behold, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Thursday 14th Nov. 2024 – LUKE 17:20-25.

So, in another part of the Holy Bible, Christ says, “The day of the Lord will come like a thief at night” – MATTHEW 16:15

In another place, the Holy Bible again says much the same thing, “For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night” – 1 THESSALONIANS 5:2.

Then, yet again, in today’s teaching, Christ still emphasises that there will be no particular signs to show or indicate that the kingdom of God is coming. It will suddenly just come.

Once an issue is said repeatedly, it is just to emphasise the urgent importance.

However, just so as not to put us at our frightful edge, the statement, “Do not be afraid” is also emphasised in the Holy Bible.

Only, this time, the statement is repeated 365 times. Symbolically, it could be signifying one reassurance daily for the whole year.

Nevertheless, irrespective of the reassurance from God that we should fear not, we, too, must live in such a way that no sudden occurrence would scare, scuttle, or even just put us on the edge.

Today’s counsel is simple, like the motto of Boys’ Scout says, “Always be prepared,” so, we must be.

May God avail us the grace to permit His will to be realised in our life.

Have a fantastic day folks.
