The Gift of Discernment.

“There was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.” But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Tuesday 14th January 2025 – MARK 1:21-28.

So, knowingly or unknowingly, we actually do carry an aura with us.

Thus is not the feeling type. But it is that which is abstract and buried deep within us, in our spirit self.

This, however, is not known to most of us.

Moreover, most people almost are too restless to perceive such aura in others when they encounter them.

A clean, admirable and resplendent appearance is not enough to suppress or camouflage such aura. Neither can a shabby or wretched appearance shield it.

For one who is discerning, once we meet a person who is very godly and spiritual, our spirit ministers to us. So it is with when we encounter dubious and evil people.

God has given animals, especially domesticated ones like dogs that kind of discerning characteristics.

So, it also happened in today’s teaching. The vile spirits encamped inside of that man quickly recognised Christ Jesus and they became restless.

Dear friend, have you noticed that some of us who are steadfastly astute in our ways and we do take our piety and spiritual life seriously, when we get to a place, some people suddenly get unsettled?

Dear friend, while we grow in our pious life, we must also ask God for the grace and gift of discernment.

With such a gift, one can see through a whole lot of masks for the good of mankind to the greater glory of God

JESUS IS LORD!

Have a fantastic day folks.

Brave the Odds, Approach Christ

“There came a man full of leprosy; and when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and begged him, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And he stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him.

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Friday 10th January 2025 – LUKE 5:12-16.

So, when one is at any of our markets in Nigeria, it is common sight to see wheel barrow pushers carrying goods that ordinarily will be the capacity of a van.

Sometimes the pile of goods will be so high that they would have to be piping intermittently at the edge of that pile to have a glimpse of their front.

Often, while pushing such pile of load, depending on the city in Nigeria, they usually call the attention of the people in front to clear the road for them.

Therefore, one normally would hear expressions like, ‘hanya baro!’ Others are ‘uzo!’ Then my our brothers from the south-south would simply say, ‘clear road’!

Now, that, too, was the lot of a leprous person until Jesus’ time in Israel. – “The leprous person who has the disease shall wear torn clothes and let the hair of his head hang loose, and he shall cover his upper lip and cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean.” – LEVITICUS 13:45.

Ordinarily, the society at that time do not even permit certain level of grooming and self-care to such people.

The Holy Bible says, their hair must hang loose and unkempt and their clothes should be torn.

Now, here is one who should be announcing his uncleanness to avoid people getting closer to him going close enough to speak to and be touched and healed by Jesus Christ.

Dear friend, no matter how much diseased, dirty and possibly also stinking that that leprous man was, Christ Jesus went ahead and touched him.

Dear friend, does anyone ever think that Christ wouldn’t have just said, “Be clean” and the man would be cleansed of his leprosy?

Of course, it is possible, the examples of such pronouncements and subsequent miracles are rife. So, there’s no doubting it.

However, Christ wanted to prove a point and send a message. And, my dear friend, that message is reverberating till this day.

Dear friend, no matter how much stingingly dirty, sordid and miserably appalling our sins and lives may be, once we come to Jesus Christ, he is still willing to welcome and embrace us and make us clean.

Dear friend, you too, brave the odds and go to Jesus Christ. Certainly, your story will change for better.

Have a fantastic day folks.

We are All in the Storm.

“But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; have no fear.” And he got into the boat with them and the wind ceased.”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Wednesday 8th January 2025 – MARK 6:45-52.

So, we know that a burden shared is one that is half-solved.

When we have a friend that we can share our burden with. Not necessarily having them taken away. No, the mere opportunity of having one who can listen without judging and empathise with us is a rare privilege. And it is equally also very soothing.

However, having Jesus Christ with us, in our boat as a friend and companion is worth more than just a soothing friend.

Christ Jesus other than pacifying us, also takes away our storms and burdens.

What are those storms and burdens that assail us?

The year 2024 ended with some of us not getting to achieve our set goals. Whereas, the economic outlook for the 2025 isn’t giving any respite that situations may be any better.

One has intentions to get married since 2022. The years 2023 and 2024 zoomed pass. Yet there isn’t a meaningful source of income that would guaranty them a daily meal, not to talk of sustaining a family.

Another is having age racing swiftly against her while she’s still to get married. Most or all eminent suitors are seeking to better their economy before venturing into marriage.

Then, someone has been battling with ailments. Some of the ailments could be strange while others may be as a result of our lifestyles. Notwithstanding, we still need help.

My dear friend, each one of us have our storms and burdens, and, we all need help.

All we need do is to call on Christ Jesus and permit him to get into the boat with us.

We should cast all our burdens on him then look on to the future with hope and enthusiasm.

Even if medical experts have given up on us; also, even if the year 2025 looks so forlorn, once we cast our burdens on Christ Jesus, we must look on with hope.

Like the Apostles who were roving in a deathly storm without the slightest hope of any help, yet the were saved in the most unlikely way, when Christ came walking on water to their rescue.

My dear friend, your help, too, will come in the most unlikely way. Invite Christ into your boat. Cast all your burden on him. Trust him blindly. Be patient and keep hope alive.

Have a fantastic day folks.

Dispose Yourself to Love

“Let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God; for God is love.”

Excerpt, First Reading, Tuesday 7th January 2025 – 1 JOHN 4:7- 10.

So, you do know as much we all do that one can only give what one has. You can not give what you do not have.

If one has two pairs of shoes, they can choose to give one pair to a needy person.

Some may even be so extreme that having just one pair of shoes, they may still go ahead and surrender them to someone else whom they feel has more crucial need of them. This is love.

This, my dear friend, is also likened to love.

It is one who has felt love that knows love and can give love.

Some of us have been so battered that love seems and feels weird to us. Nevertheless, we can be repaired when we dispose of ourselves to love

We must dispose ourselves to love so that we too can love as much.

Love is not just about sympathy and compassion, there must also be some empathy as well as actions if and when we can.

In today’ Gospel, after empathising with the people, Christ, after feeding them spiritually, also gave them physical food.

We must have love so we, too, will be capable of giving it.

Have a fantastic day folks.

We Must Be Wiser

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit which confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit which does not confess Jesus is not of God.”

Excerpt, First Reading, Monday 6th January 2025 – 1 JOHN 3:22-4:6.

So, we are welcome to a new year – 2025. May God avail us His grace.

We are one older, hence, one year more experienced and supposedly more wiser.

Today’s teaching enjoins us to test every spirit and know which is of the truth and the one that is not.

Therefore, if our religious sect or denominations centres their preaching on another sect or denomination rather than teaching on how we can make heaven, then we must begin to ask questions. Else, we must have permitted ourselves to be led by the nose.

In Christianity, we end our prayer by saying, “Through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Then, we all acclaim, “Amen!”

If however, in your religious sect you do not recognise Christ Jesus as such (and there several religious sects that do not), then why would your cleric choose to make the theme of his message for an annual event, “Jesus is not God” and you will be docilely be quiet about it?

Even in Christendom, in the Catholic Church, we believe that the Blessed Virgin Mary is the mother of God, and we so honour her.

However, other Christian denominations have disagreement over that and have refused to acknowledge it.

Therefore, if in one of your religious group’s annual event, the theme is, “Mary is not the mother of God.” Just as with the one above on Jesus Christ.

Now, if your church, denomination or sect do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as well as the Blessed Virgin Mary as such, why should you remain quiet if your cleric chooses either of the above themes for an annual message, how will that help you to make heaven?

My dear friend, we are our own problem if we choose and accept to be led by our nose and treated shabbily.

This is the year 2025, if we must have just one resolution, then, it must be that we should not allow ourselves to be disrespected.

Therefore, we must test every spirit to know it substance.

Folks, have a fulfilled year, a blessed week and a fatalistic day.

Know this and Know Peace

“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray.”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Tuesday 10th Dec. 2024 – MATTHEW 18:12-14.

So, most of us may regard the above assertion as foolish or wasteful until such a time when we happen to be that one that has gone astray and needs to be helped.

Sometimes, when we find ourselves going astray, it could be due to decisions we have made. Whereas at other times what is obfuscating us may be way beyond us.

Notwithstanding the situation, we tend to be vehemently keen on our own ways believing them to be the best for us until we end up having to find our self alone just by our self.

A young man who has come of age but still under the benevolent care of his parents may choose to go a path that is destructive.

All measures to counsel that young man aright may fall on deaf ears. As far as he’s concerned, the whole world is wrong, just he alone is right.

A woman whose husband provides for all her material and emotional needs still gets adulterous.

The exhilaration of her escapades will blind and deafen her to all entreaties of caution to desist.

When we sit down to some beer, even that there are over a million and one issues we can engage for discussion, we choose to make one of our friends our topic. Unfortunately, even men do this these days.

Then, immediately after we disperse, one of us, he who brought up the issue will call that friend and tell him what so, so and so persons supposedly said about them. It is quite deplorable that this is also now very prevalent among we men. Very sad.

Nevertheless, Christ, is saying, He and to a large extent, we, too, mustn’t give up on any of these people until the very last of us is extricate from these ways.

Dear friend, it is time we rolled up our sleeves and walk the talk to save that brother, that sister, that friend and that colleague, even the foe we so love gossiping about, before they finally sink into the abyss.

If we can do even the most little that we can to help them but we didn’t, we have automatically shared of their doom. And the guilt of their destruction will eternally haunt us.

My dear friend, we must know this to know peace.

Have a fantastic day folks.

Make Staright Our Paths

THIS SEASON OF VIOLET COLOUR 02.

“The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Monday 9th Dec. 2024 – LUKE 1:25-38.

So, the Blessed Virgin Mary is venerated with several appellations. One of such titles is, “Our Lady Mother of Sorrows.”

Now, is it not quite strange, mysterious and confusing for one who was greeted in such a manner by an archangel to yet have a title as such?

All through the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, there was nothing quite seeming as one who is full of grace and God is with her.

The birth and life of the man by virtue of which she was full of grace happen to also be the same cause for the title of, “Our Lady Mother of Sorrows.”

The only semblance of such graces only began to manifest after her death when she was assumed body and soul into heaven.

Dear friend, Christ already said it, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but the word of God must come to pass.”

Therefore, as we await the coming of the Infant King this Christmas, we must rest in the assurance that his coming now is not to judge and condemn the world.

This Christmas, the Prince of Peace will be born to bring us peace, happiness, laughter, and more peace and joy like a river.

This, too, is the word of God and it shall come to pass and fulfil the purpose on to which it was sent.

We must make him a room in our heart, make straight our paths, level our mountains and fill up the valleys.

Christmas is most definitely a beautiful season full joy and laughter. We mustn’t enter it with the muffled cacophony of bad moods, fowl conscience with a handful of guilt.

Have a pleasant day and a fulfilled week folks.

His Gifts are Unconditional

“Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be done to you.” And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly charged them, “See that no one knows it.” But they went away and spread his fame through all that district.”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Friday 6th Dec. 2024 – MATTHEW 9-27-31.

So, today’s teaching is about those times when it is just practically impossible not to be disobedient.

What on earth to you want those formerly blind men to say to inquisitive people or how do Christ intend that they react when questioned?

Firstly, Christ took the blind men into the house, away from the prying eyes of other people where he restored their sight.

So, when they came out, now, no longer blind and when people ask them how did it happen?

Should they ignore those pertinent questions and rather continue in their ululation? Or, probably just keep saying, “What’s your business?” Or “Why are you asking?” Or “Why do you want to know?”

As it is and as we are already aware, people would first be most interested in asking and getting to know the what, when, where, who and how over and above really wanting to join the formerly blind people to rejoice. Unfortunately, even members of their families will be likewise.

The healing of this two blind men happened just after Christ has restored life to the deceased daughter of Jarius. That, too, was done away from people’s gaze.

However, do we all noticed that even when they defiled Christ’s instructions and continued to broadcast it to all who wish to hear about what happened to them, they did not become blind again or neither did they suddenly became mad.

Unfortunately, as we have watched in a plethora of Nollowood films, if it were one ‘babalawo/mamalawo’ (diviners) who purportedly healed them, they would have been given some conditions consequence upon which if they are defaulted, there would be a reversal of the healing or worse consequences.

God’s kind of blessing is not some kind of lending. God gives freely and freely too, He asks us to give.

While not discountenancing returning to give thanks, it was never herd that the remaining 9 who didn’t return to thank Christ Jesus after the were cleansed of leprosy became leprous again.

Dear friend, God’s gift is unconditional.

Folks, have a fantastic day and a pleasant weekend.

Only Requirement? Live Right.

“Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Thursday 5th Dec. 2024 – MATTHEW 7:21.24-27.

So, if we could recall the Book of Job in the Holy Bible, it begins thus, “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.” – JOB 1:6.

Is this not an indication that Satan also knows God? So, is it not also possible that Satan will also have a place that he calls a church and he will always be shouting the name lord, lord?

Some of us always mouth the name Jesus, Lord, God with reckless abandon. As a matter of fact, the name Jesus has become a form of exclamation (not altogether bad, though) to some of us.

Nevertheless, both our inner and posterior demeanour usually never tend to portray the kind of pious chastity we often verbalise.

Thus, the message of today’s teaching.

So, whether we mouth those names very often or not, the only requirement of us to make heaven is just to live right. That’s all!

By living right, it is we making our conscious and deliberate effort to ensure that we do the things of our everyday life truthfully, with all honesty, sincerity and purposely to bring about the betterment of mankind and a greater glory to God.

Remember, God is more persuaded by our deliberate positive efforts to become better.

Have a fantastic day folks.

He Gives A Complete Package

“The throng wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel. Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days, and have nothing to eat; and I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.” . . . . . . . . . . . . And having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied; and they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces left over.

Excerpt, Gospel Reading, Wednesday 4th Dec. 2024 – MATTHEW 15:29-37.

So, today’s teaching as could be seen from the excerpts above is a clear testament that God does not do His things half-&-half.

If a couple are without children in their marriage, when God is going to bless them, He gives them children or a child that will stay.

If someone prays to God for the wherewithal to get a laptop computer, when God answers their prayer, He gives them the laptop as well a laptop bag, Internet facility, laptop table and chair as well as the means to do data subscription.

When we pray to God to send us a destiny helper, and when they come, they don’t only lead us to the way to a means, they also facilitate the ease of the way and means.

My dear friend, we will never come to God and He will send us away hungry and empty handed.

Of course, after God heals us, He then gives us bread with fish abundantly to eat to our fill before continuing on.

We only need to have faith and hope in Him, then trust and believe Him. If it doesn’t happen on the first day, it may be on the second or most probably the third as it was with the people in today’s teaching.

Have a fantastic day folks.
